Exploring Your Needs and Our Process

If you’re considering working with a fee-only advisory firm such as ours, you may wonder how the process works. Typically, a client relationship begins when we receive a referral from a client or another financial professional. We also have met many of our clients in the course of our volunteer and professional activities.

We frequently meet with prospective clients. Over the years, we’ve developed a low-key process that focuses on exploring a potential relationship. It’s a conversation that develops over the course of several meetings and phone calls, which is reflective of our philosophy of building long-term relationships. We typically start out with a get-acquainted meeting designed to explore your current financial situation and goals. Frequently, we’re asked to provide a “second opinion” on existing investment and financial plans.

As part of this process, our goal is to determine whether there is a good fit between our approach to investment management and financial planning and your needs for guidance. We’re very open about who we are, our credentials and how our life experience has impacted our process. A hard sell of investment services is never part of our approach.

Instead, we’re seeking to come to a common ground, to an agreement that we’d like to work together, if that ends up being the case. This mutual exploration may take two or three face-to-face meetings to work through, during which we engage in a conversation about your family, your life and your financial goals and dreams. We’ll share how we came to practice the specific investment and financial planning philosophies that we believe in and how they might work for you.

If we decide to work together, we’ll oversee the transition between your current advisors and our firm. Our capable administrative team will handle all the details, and we’ll schedule frequent meetings and phone calls to help guide you to the decisions surrounding your investment portfolio and your current financial planning needs. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a long, productive and rewarding relationship.
